How to run a meal train sign-up
When a family has a new baby, a surgery or a loss, friends want to help, and the family doesn't want to coordinate it. A meal train puts one cook on each night so meals don't pile up on Monday and stop by Thursday. The note at the top carries what everyone needs to know: drop-off time, how many people, allergies and preferences. Helpers sign up with a first name only and can remove themselves if plans change. Unlike many meal-train sites there are no ads on the page and nobody has to make an account to bring a lasagna.
- Ask the family about allergies, portions and a drop-off spot, and put all of it in the note.
- Keep or trim the nights. Two weeks of weeknights is a common first run; you can add more later.
- Create the sheet and share the link with friends, coworkers or the congregation. Keep the organizer link for yourself.
- If the family needs a quiet night, use the organizer link to remove that slot.
Tips
- Use a porch cooler for drop-off so the family doesn't have to host visitors.
- Grocery run and takeout gift card slots let faraway friends help too.
- Ask for disposable containers in the note so nobody has to return dishes.
- Set the date to the last meal: the sheet and every name on it delete themselves 30 days later.
